Toronto 18 On June 2, 2006, the lives of young Canadian citizens (infamously known as Toronto 18) were changed forever. Like other young Canadians, these men aspired to complete a degree or find a job, and settle down to start a family of their own. Instead, on this night, their dreams were shattered when more than 400 heavily armed police officers stormed their homes in the Greater Toronto Area. Doors were broken, furniture was destroyed, and women and children were pushed to the floor. These young Canadian men, with others were charged of being alleged members of a purported Islamic terrorist cell that was allegedly planning to explode some buildings in downtown Toronto! They were taken away from their scared and shattered families. Another suspect was arrested two months after the raid and released on bail few weeks after his arrest.

Bail Granted on 5-nov-07. The eldest suspect and alleged ringleader in the Toronto-area terrorism case was granted bail after the most serious charge against him was dropped. Qayyum Abdul Jamal, 44, breathed a loud sigh of relief and smiled at his wife when the judge made the order inside a Brampton courtroom.

June 02, 2006, around 11:30pm, I am with my wife in a Hotel in Niagara Falls, away from the kids, trying to get a long waited vacation that we deserved but never had the chance to have, when the most unfortunate phone call arrived. It was my daughter. With a shattered and shaking voice, she informed me that my son, my first born son, Shareef is arrested! I did not know how to respond. My son is arrested? Why? How? For what reason? Shareef, of all the people in the world, can never be in such trouble with any one, let alone the Police? I appeal to the Canadian Intellect and conscience to give my son the benefit of the doubt, and read what can be, to say the least, a definite reasonable doubt on the “story” that tainted CISC and RCMP have netted for him and his colleagues. It is now obvious that these allegations are not but politically motivated maneuvers to serve certain party agenda.

He has been deprived of his many basic human and constitutional rights without due process. He has spent 14 months in solitary confinement without any human contact.

Zakaria Amara is one of the alleged leaders of an alleged terrorist. He has been in solitary confinement for the last 19 months awaiting trial and says that’s beginning to drive him crazy. But what drives the 22-year-old Canadian even crazier is that the deck seems so stacked against him, which he cannot understand. He says If I am guilty I’m going to have to pay for it. But what if I am innocent?

Informants What is the credibility of the agents? Why did they agree to work for police? How involved were they in the alleged planning of the attacks? “It’s going to depend on the disclosure and what role the operative played,” says Paul Copeland, an experienced Toronto criminal lawyer and police watchdog, who is representing one of the 17 accused. “The issue that could arise is the potential of entrapment. It’s not appropriate for police to encourage a crime and then arrest those suspected of committing that crime.”

Mubin Shaikh (told Linden MacIntyre) about his road to piety, Mubin told him, “It was filled with sin and living life.” Mubin is the son of Indian immigrants who moved to Canada in the 1970s. The CSIS saw his potential for infiltrating the group, which they’d had under surveillance for some time. Shaikh also thought he was the best person for the job.. Why did he do it?

The RCMP paid a civilian informant more than $4 million to help execute the sting operation that brought down a group of alleged terrorists in Toronto. The undercover mole, a well-known member of the city’s Muslim community, was hired by the Mounties just weeks before the shocking arrests — and only after some shrewd negotiations over his compensation. In fact, the 28-year-old businessman originally demanded more than $15 million for his covert services, arguing that he and his family deserved a *comfortable lifestyle* when the operation was over.

Wajid Khan is a Member of Parliament whose original riding is Mississauga-Streetsville, (though he doesn’t actually live here, he really lives in Toronto). He himself confessed to informing *the authorities* about Abdul Qayyum’s perspective because Abdul Qayyum was a constant thorn in his side whenever he would try to solicit political support in the Mosque. Abdul Qayyum had consistently objected to Wajid Khan using the Mosque to mix politics and religion...
