Source: Toronto Star - 6-apr-08 In the end, his charges were stayed. 'The authorities ruined my brother's future, his reputation and abused him physically and psychologically – all for, according to them, absolutely no reason'
It's been nearly two years since the raid on our house, since the day they took my brother and another relative. Since that day, my family and I have lived in silence. It's an emotional topic for me and talking about it means reliving that pain all over again. But I feel obliged to let Canadians know about our experience and what we continue to experience each and every single day.

Source: Global Research - 3-Apr-08 by Beenish Gaya Feels like June 2nd all over againThe trial of the only remaining youth in the Toronto 18 case commenced last week in a Brampton courtroom. The new details disclosed in the Crown factum filed in the case elicited depressingly new emotional lows in all of the accused and their families. Reminiscent of that fateful day in June, 2006, the media sensationalism started all over again, with the reporting of incomplete evidence and outrageous headlines. Having attended the entire preliminary hearing, I must confess my shock and disbelief at the fact that these allegations continue to be presented in a manner which precludes the public from seeing a complete or accurate picture.

26-mar-08 Special to captiveincanada.com Again...the media, this time led by the Toronto Star, has took the bait of the prosecution, who partially removed the ban, with the start of the trial of the youths to allow for the so-called evidence he presented in the first day to be published. Again, they pollute the public opinion by showing the government, and only the government, views. So, after 22 months of silence from the media, the first come back is to destroy the credibility of these people, by presenting the other side of the story, in detail, as if they are showing facts. It is the sequel of the circus that was put up on June 03, 2006, where the government wants to use the dumb media to hype the public opinion against the accused. Then, the matter dies away again and no evidence from the defense is shown.

Dr Tariq Abdelhaleem, 24-nov-07
Saturday, for most people, is a great day. They sleep in and start the day after a late breakfast, and then plan for the rest of it. They look forward to: shopping, visiting, eating out- all kinds of nice moments to look forward to. Except for me, it isn't such a great day. It is, in the matter of fact, a day of pain and desperation. It is the day of my scheduled visit to my son, Shareef, in Maplehurst correctional center; where he is detained awaiting the trial.

captiveincanada.com, 23-nov-07 It was reported that officials in the Don Prison have promised to change the inhumane treatment of the three detainees and "presumed innocents", Fahim Ahmad, Zakaria Amara and Mohammed Dirie, after the Toronto Star Reporter Tom Walkom article. However, nothing was changed in the conditions of detention! The treatment continues with relentless effort by the prison officials to make the lives of these three "innocents until proven guilty" young men miserable and unbearable.

SPECIAL For Captiveincanada.com - 22-nov-07
There is another new shock. This comes shortly after the shock of the prosecution unilaterally canceling their agreement with the defense lawyers and stopping the preliminary hearing. Now the shock is the battle the defense lawyers have with Legal Aid. The lawyers have agreed on an approach to calculate and apply for the hours needed for the motions due to the cancellation of the preliminary hearing. However, Legal Aid came back with "much" less hours, according to some of the lawyers, than what they need to prepare and conduct a fair defense on behalf of their clients. Four of the lawyers have already accepted the hours assigned to them. However, the rest did not. They announced that they will not proceed with any legal work until this matter is settled.
The dilemma of the accused is now doubled in size. They have to battle on two fronts. First, is the government, who is working hard to prevent the accused from getting a decent defense and to prolong their incarceration for as long as they can. Second is the new battle is with the defense lawyers, who are putting the motions and the trial off until the monetary issues are settled. The loser in this process is merely the "presumed innocents". They are spending their time in jail, without bail, for an extra indefinite time until those two parties get over the money issue.
